MICHAEL BRAITHWAITE

 

Michael Braithwaite is an award winning creative director, producer and musician delivering numerous live shows and spectaculars worldwide, including the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Dubai, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. He is currently Creative Director of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland, which he relaunched post-pandemic with Voices (2022), Stories (2023) and Journeys (2024). In his time as Creative Director The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has played to a live audience of over 660,000 and a worldwide cinema and TV audience of 300 million.

 

Previously Michael spent five years as Global Shows Director for the Merlin Entertainment Group, directing major creative partnerships with DreamWorks, Warner Brothers, the LEGO Group, BBC Worldwide, Lionsgate and Fox in  the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Dubai, Japan and Malaysia and 23 territories worldwide. During his time with Merlin he was awarded the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Best Theatrical Production for his production  Ninjago: The Realm of Shadows, now in its 9th year in Japan and Malaysia. His outdoor spectacular, The Wars of the Roses Live, is currently in its 8th year at Warwick Castle in the UK.

 

Originally from New Zealand, Michael commenced his international career in London as the first Creative Producer for Live Entertainment for the Jim Henson Company. Michael also worked for Warner Brothers on the films Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets. More recently he has been Creative Director for the Mayor of London’s Outdoor Festival for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics

 

At New York’s Commercial Theater Institute, Michael was the first New Zealander, and one of the youngest directors ever, to be invited to attend its Producing for Broadway & The Road intensive programme for promising young producers and directors.
